Call for Applications: CENDARI Visiting Research Fellowships, 2014/15

CENDARI (Collaborative European Digital Archive Infrastructure) a European Union funded project is inviting applications for visiting research fellowships to support and stimulate historical research in the two pilot areas of medieval European culture and the First World War. The CENDARI fellowships are funded for 6 and 12 weeks. Applicant must work/study in a country other than the country where the CENDARI host institution is established. Fellowships for 2014 will be awarded by five partner institutions in the Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland & the UK. The application deadline is 9th December 2013.

Study Subject (s): The CENDARI Visiting Research Fellowships are intended to support and stimulate historical research in the two pilot areas of medieval European culture and the First World War.
Course Level: Fellowships are offered to scholars and early career researchers for historical research at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, King’s College London, UK, National Library of the Czech Republic, Czech Republic, Göttingen Centre for Digital Humanities (GCDH), University of Göttingen, Germany and University of Stuttgart and Library of Contemporary History, Germany.
Scholarship Provider: The CENDARI fellowships are funded by the European Union under the FP7 Capacities Programme.
Scholarship can be taken at: Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland & the UK

Eligibility:
Application complies with the Terms and Conditions and is complete
-Applicant is at PhD student level or above
-Applicant works or studies in an institution established in an EU Member State or associated state
-Applicant must work/study in a country other than the country where the CENDARI host institution is established
-Research proposal is realistic and appropriate for the selected host institution(s)

Scholarship Open for International Students: Applicants of Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland & the UK may apply for the fellowship.

Scholarship Description: The CENDARI Visiting Research Fellowships are intended to support and stimulate historical research in the two pilot areas of medieval European culture and the First World War, by facilitating access to key archives, specialist knowledge and collections in CENDARI host institutions. The CENDARI Transnational Access programme is financed by the European Union. In particular, the CENDARI project is committed to hosting early career scholars who aim to apply digital humanities methods to their historical enquiry. The fellowships are particularly designed to support researchers from countries without equivalent facilities and early career scholars with limited access to these research infrastructures.

Duration of award(s): The CENDARI fellowships are funded for between 6 and 12 weeks.

What does it cover? CENDARI visiting research fellowships include a stipend for housing and living expenses as well as travel to and from the inviting institution. Recipients will be responsible for securing visas, where necessary. Fellows will have access to the research infrastructure of the respective CENDARI partner institution including access to a workspace and a networked computer.

Selection Criteria: Only applications which satisfy all of the above Eligibility Criteria will go forward for assessment against the Award Criteria. Applications which do not satisfy all of the above Eligibility Criteria will be rejected. The award criteria are as follows:
-Research Questions
-Work Plan
-Outputs
-Relationship to Applicant’s Previous Work and/or New Avenues
-Relevance to CENDARI
-Relevance to Host Institution
Applications will be assessed in accordance with the above Criteria by a Committee including representatives from the CENDARI host institutions as well as the External Expert Advisory Board (EEAB) of the CENDARI project.

Notification: The results of the assessment will be notified to all applicants in April/May 2014.

All applications received before the deadline will be acknowledged by return email. If you do not receive an acknowledgement email within two working days of submission of your application, please contact immediately. The application must include the following:
-A completed application form (see Annex 2).
-A curriculum vitae (maximum 2 pages).
-Name and contact details for a referee who is familiar with the applicant’s work and may be contacted directly by CENDARI.
-In the case of applications by Ph.D. students, the application should include a signed letter of recommendation from their supervisor
-A proposal (1,500 words maximum) in accordance with the guidelines.

Scholarship Application Deadline: The closing date for receipt of applications is the 9th December 2013.
