German Student Visa Rejection

I see students saying that German embassy has gone messy and they are rejecting so many applications. Consider this scenario (Example) Till last year , embassy was giving about 50 visa’s for winter semester and the number of applicants were about 70. It means that only 20 cases got rejected in winter semester. Since this group had not many students last year , not many people shared their actually accept/reject ratio here. Other European countries have implemented fee’s while germany has kept the fee’s the same or have removed it completely. An international student has to pay the same money as a local student pays in the university for education. Here they say. “Education is free for all, no matter where they come from”. All the load from Finland/Sweden where most of the Pakistani students were going , had shifted to germany. So if for the same 50 visa’s there are 500 applicants, You can easily think of the ratio of acceptance and rejection. In issuing the student visa , Only the embassy is not involved but the local authorities and states are involved too. They check for their requirements , how many people can be accommodated/transport facilities etc. and so on. I remember last year , when there were so many new students coming. Accommodation was a real problem , keep international students aside , many local students had to sleep in churches for about two weeks because they just couldn’t find any room to live. The average cost of living per Sqm had increased from 200 avg to 290 euro avg (Darmstadt). Furthermore , the students are not only coming from pakistan , but from india etc too. Than there are the local students and than there are these Huge number of Erasmus exchange students. I see some students are commenting that visa refusal is due to Nato problem etc , some debate that its due to the illegal immigrants. My friend from Bangladesh tells me that from last three months , German embassy in dhaka has not issued even a interview date to the applicants , keep the issuance of visa aside. As the number of applicants increase , the processing time would def. increase with it. Even when you come to germany , the Electronic Residence permit take about 4-7 weeks to arrive.

Now we cannot do anything about how long will they take to process the visa? what we can do from our side is that to apply to the university at the earlier. Say you want to join in September. You must send your application at the end of december or in january. You will get admission letter by post in feb or say in march. You can open bank account and apply for visa in april and you will have enough time even if they take months to process it. I would also like to say that offcourse its very annoying that if everything is complete and still the visa is rejected , it makes no sense. But than again , its their home , its upto them who they let in and who they dont. The only choice we have is that can appeal against it. Using bad language here for them or the people who are already in germany legal/illegal is not going to help anyone. Raising such issues on this forum is beyond the scope of this group. I and many others like me had joined this forum to help students about study and general life questions which you may have for studying in germany. During my application and the rest of others already in germany , we had no such help from other people , no guidance. Last but not the least , i wish everyone get the visa and they come to germany for study but if they dont , we are muslims and i believe that Allah has choosen the best for us and Germany is not the end of the world!.

    Hello
    Asalamu Alaikum

how are you today? The point I wanna make is that the visa office located in Chennai have replied to my email saying that the Foreign Aliens Authority in Germany must have rejected my visa because of the late arrival which is 25th Oct and the University must have started by Oct 1st. In cases of late applications, the Foreign office double checks with the respective University and informs about the rejection. So in my case he says that its because of late application.
Now after all, I asked him that since i got my Admission deferred to summer and the answer was to apply again as soon as possible. I already got a interview date which is 20th November :-)
This time I want to make it completely perfect. Can you provide me some help on Visa cover letters and the Interview questions ? I would really appreciate your help on that
    Thanks

    With regards
    Mohamed Asik Rahman

I am from Pakistan. I applied for Visa on 4 Octber. I got a call from embassy on Friday 8-November, that you should pick your visa from embassy office in an hour. But I was out of town and could not reach immediately. The Visa officer who called said that I should fly by sunday because University deadline was 11-November. I appealed that I would give an extension letter and they agreed. But later my passport was posted at home on thursday 21-Novemeber by AMEX courier. But the Visa was stamped and the had been cancelled with a pen and written underneath: “Cancelled without Prejudice”. The university did not give me extension but deferred me to March semester.
My question is that I need to apply again for Visa, will there be any kind of problem? It was not my fault what happened. I have not seen any1 else have had any such problem.. My case was strong, what kind of question can they ask now? I will be going to embassy office soon to apply. please help if u can!
P.S: Visa officer made a call in between just to tell that they were sending my passport, but due to not providing them with an extension letter they will not give me VISA.

Its okay , if you got the visa for the first time , most probably you can get it again. Re-apply as soon as possible so that you have enough time for it.

      Dear Ali m,

I would like to ask to you, did u deposit the 8000 Euros in your DB Account before applying for visa?

    Dear Admin,

Could you please tell me, is it possible that one can apply for German student visa without depositing the 8000 Euros in DB Account? Will Visa officer call for depositing the amount in his account before visa issuance?
    Waiting for your kind response.

  • PU_ENGINEER

    Dear Admin,
it been 80 days and I am still waiting for my visa. How much I mat have to wait more. Furthurmore, What should I say to University about extention of defer the admission? my classes started on 15 oct

    • admin

      Hi ,
It really depends on case to case basis. Just inform your university that due to visa processing delay you will not be able to join this semester and hence differ your admission to the next possible semester. Also if your classes started in october , i am not sure if they will enroll you now? probally you will need to differ your admission for sure.

      • engineer_pu

University is asking the proof from embassy that, when would the visa process end only then they will differ to next semester. Furthermore, embassy has not provided any definite visa processing time. What should I tell the university?

  • Rattan Gill

    Hello Admin,
I had applied for a student visa on the 12th of December 2013( it was my second attempt). I had secured admission in TU Clausthal in a business course( German commanded), preceded by a intensive language course. The embassy responded with the same letter both times saying it was unclear about my intentions( I had all proper documents from the university and proof of payment for the language course), I had inadequate funds (I showed mutual fund investments that were nearly triple the required amount) and the embassy was not convinced of my intention to stay/study in Germany. Please guide me admin as I, like most people, am very eager to go. What would be a suitable response to the embassy?

    • Rattan Gill

Also I had set up a blocked account.

    • admin

      Hi ,
Sorry to hear about the rejection. I suggest you ask them the actual reasons for rejection. And correct those stuff. If you apply again with same stuff. probaly will get a rejection again.

      Admin

      • Rattan Gill

Thank you for your quick response. How does one ask for real reasons? I believe the embassy never reveals them to anyone. I do not think they will respond to such a query

        • admin

          Hi Rattan,
Well Embassy don’t give any reason when one’s visa got rejected. But One should at-least appeal also called “Remonstration”. If you are of the opinion that the decision of the Embassy was incorrect, please explain in writing, why you have this opinion and request for the re-checking of the rejection of your visa application. You will receive a short explanation in note form regarding the reasons for the rejection of your application when you receive your passport. Please discuss the reasons for rejection in your written request for the checking (remonstration). The processing of a remonstration requires several weeks. The embassy will thereby respond to your remonstration and review the application. You should sign it , and write you address on the letter. For further information , please See: http://germanystudy.net/visa-rejected/ ….

          Regards Admin

  • Rattan Gill

Thank you admin for your prompt reply once again
My questions to you are as follows:
    1) How long after the visa rejection letter can one file for the remonstration?
    2) Does this remonstration, have a high sucess rate?
    3) not to sound repetitive, but does the embassy actually read the letters sent to them or just respond with the same generic letter of rejection?
Thank you sir/madam, you have been very co operative and helpful.

    • admin

      Dear Rattan,
      1) As soon as you hear the rejection
      2) They will tell you what are the problems , you can work on the problems
      3) Yes they do , legally

You are always welcome :) , sharing the site amongst your circle will help other students like you too :)

    Hi,
hope u r doin great admin, just a question.. Can u plz tell me is there any alternative option for the blocked account in Euoros? I heard that if someone (basically Euorpean resident) sponsors you can do as well? Can you plz comment on it thanks.
Look forward to hear from you.
    Regards,

    • admin

      Dear BhKhan,
Yes , that is possible , but i strongly advise that you open the blocked account for the first year. After that you can give them the letter and use it for further renewals for your resident permit. They need to contact the german embassy where they live to ask what is required.

    Hello,

I had applied for a German student visa at the Mumbai Consulate on 3rd December 2013. I was called two days back and was asked to come again as the ‘Officer at the Consulate’ wishes to take a second interview. Does this mean that my visa application has been accepted and they are calling me to stamp the visa onto my passport? I will be going to the Consulate tomorrow but was just worried if a second interview was a good sign.

    Thank you

  • arun

if your classes starts in April for example at April 3 rd then you must say them that you will be leaving at march 15 th , they will ask you a date don’t say something like somewhere around 15 th march or before April 3 rd just give them a specific date which should be at least 15 days ahead of your course commencement date

    • admin

Arun is right. Thanks for helping out. :) i am looking for people who could help with posts and reply to users. anyone willing can email me at admin[at]germanystudy.net . Posts could be general posts too.

  • Ganesh C

hello. Im currently in Germany doing Masters in TU Chenmitz.
I came here on 6th Nov 2013 and my 3 month visa expires on 2nd of Feb 2014.
I have applied for residence permit in mid november itself.
How long will they take to issue my electronic residence permit card?
Because Im planning to go to India during holidays (March 10)
If they dont issue the card by the time, is it enought to travel and enter germany with the passport holding the visa extension letter on to it?
    Pls advice.

    • admin

      Dear Ganesh,
The card comes from berlin in about 1 to 1.5 months. I think your card will have arrived by then. If it didnt , goto the auslanderbehorde , and explain your situation , they will give you a document called “Fiktionsbescheinigung ” , on this all rules from your previous visa apply , so check your 3 months visa , if it says , it is MULTI entry , you can visit india on that.
I guess your card will come soon :)

      regards.

  • Vishal

    Hi Admin
I had appeared for my visa interview on 20th Jan at the Mumbai Consulate. Its been 30 days now and I have still not received a visa, on the other hand two of my course mates who are going to the same university for the same course appeared for visa interview at Mumbai itself on 22nd (two days later) have received their visa on 17th Feb….is there a problem …I called up the consulate twice regarding this but they have no answer…… Is there any way by which I can find out the status of my application??

    • Hi vishaal ,
There is no definite time for visa processing , it can take from 10 days to 6 months and embassy has little to do wether to grant you visa or not , as many other deparmtnets are allowed in it too. I think you should wait for a while more. Also if you like , you can contact the Ruathaus/Auslanderbehorde of the town your university is in. they may or may not tell you if they have given the clearence for your application( perhaps write them in german , might work?! ).

So , there is little one can do about it but to wait.

      Regards

    AOA
i am from pakistan …admin i want to know some thing from you .. i have rejected twice by the german embassy islamabad … first in april 2013 university of clausthal (energy systematick) second time februry 2014 university of Rostock (computational engineering) … tell me what should i do they give the same reason that my intentions are not for studies i am electrical engineer… should i go for the third time will students get visa for the third time ? … first time when i was rejected i also go for remonstration they give the reason that your studies are in german language you can not do it … but second time when i applied i changed the stuff i do ielts and change my medium but they still not accepting it …. i dont know why … please tell me what should i do ….

  • WOA ,
If your course was in german , you should have atleast B1 of german language to get a visa , hence it was better to apply for english courses.
What was the reason for the second time? what was your IELTS course? What is your bachelor CGPA? How was the interview
There are alot of factors in it , so i think if the previous doubt with them is not removed , after re-applying you will get the rejection again. So please provide me with the following information and i can give you an advise regarding this.
If there is something personal information and dont wish to be shared here on the posts , you can use the Contact US option from the top of the page or email me directly at admin[@]germanystudy.net

    Hello,
I am an Alevel student and I have applied for the bachelors program, the language of instruction of my program is English.

I just wanted to ask do the embassy still needs German proficiency certificate?

    • Hi ,
If your Course is going to be english , then you dont need a german language certificate. But i would strongly advise you to learn German before coming here , because obviously your life will be a lot easir with it , rather then without it and offcourse , it will make your application more stronger.. For Student visa , if your course is in english , IELTS score of 6 is required.
IF the course is going to be in german , German Level B1 to B2 is required.

  • zee

    hi admin
did students get student visa in third attempt after two rejections ???? what will be the ratio of succes in the third attempt

    • Dear Zee ,

Until you remove the problems they outlined in the first two rejections. You will probably get the rejection again. Plus One should not waste so much time then , try luck else where , Germany is not the end of the world

  • faisal

    dear admin
i applied for my student visa in islamabad german embassy, about 18 days ago ,, in my interview , visa officer tried really hard to get some kind of weakness in my academic documents. and then he also tried to stress that my university is low ranking uni in germany. while my engineering classmates are already studing in this uni in germany

however i tried my best to convince him. in the end he asked me when will your class start in germany and also asked me to write motivational letter.

    now my question is that

what will be my chance of visa ? under these visa documents backgrounds

    1) admission in related master program of previous engineering degree (3.3 cgpa

    2) ielts band( 6)
    3) german language certificate A 1 FROM Goethe institute (GUT)
    4) block account
    5) apply first time for visa virgin passport
    6) valid travel insurance

after 18 days i am still waiting for visa .

please guide my about my case .

    GOD BLESS U .

    • Dear Faisal,
In Germany education is not sold as in UK or other countries. Here most of the universities are public universities which means that they are run by the public tax and hence quality is there and nobody jokes around. Hence , we in germany , dont generally rank universities in terms of Good and bad.

      1) If your applied course is related to your bachelors , chances are more ( but no promises , i have seem some students get rejected)
      2) German language certificate is always a plus
      3) Block account is MUST for the visa application or they will deny it right away
      4) Well , the VIRGINITY doesnt matter , LOL but if you have been to other countries before , it helps to tell them that you can experience on other countries.
      5) Insurance again is must

18 days is too short period , you have to wait atleast 3 months. In german visa , there are too many people involved so , sometimes it takes longer , sometimes short.

From what you have mentioned , your application is nothing extra ordinary , hence i think shall be treated as other application. So , cannot really say , about the chances.

Last but not the least , the interview MATTERS alot , as they sen those recommendations back to germany , and if people here are not convinced , so they wont grant you visa. So interview is a important part of the visa.

I hope you get the visa. In the mean time , do apply to other countires and places.

      Regards

    • 1) If you tell them you have masters already , they will say , why dont you want to apply for phd? be prepared to reply to such question. If you tell them you havent done , they will ask what have you been doing till now? may be you can show job or something

      2) I know people who got visa for master though they already had masters. They told embassy , that such course isnt available in pakistan

      3) Depends.. If you have masters , one should apply for Phd

      4) I have seen many people who have higher gpa/qualifications then yours. still got rejected. Germany is looking for Engineering/Computer Scientists and doctors. Your field, i am not so sure.
