Visual Simultaneous Localization And Mapping (SLAM) algorithms – Implementation and Comparison

Your mission:

The Institute of Flight Systems has been operating for several years research in the field of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). A basic ability of the UAV is the navigation. To ensure even without GPS navigation are used optical sensors for support.
Based on these optical data (such as images or point clouds), it is possible to calculate the relative translation and orientation between different data pairs.

As part of the work to several known methods are implemented and compared against each other.

Your tasks are as follows:

  • Literature review and incorporation into the problem
  • Implementation of several SLAM algorithms
  • Evaluation of the results

Your qualifications:

  • Studies with a focus on computer science: computer science, mechatronics, mechanical engineering, robotics
  • good knowledge of C ++
  • are desirable experience in SLAM and Software Engineering
