Description | Renewable energies (REs) become an increasingly important energy source worldwide. However, the amount of generated REs, like wind and solar energy, cannot be determined a priori, i.e. they have to be dealt with as uncertain variables. In addition, more and more electrical vehicles have been in use and their charging behavior is also random, leading to demand uncertainty for the planning and operation of power distribution systems. Energy storage facilities can be installed to accommodate such uncertainties, but in this way, the power distribution system has to be considered as a dynamic system. In this PhD study, dynamic optimization approaches will be developed for the planning and operation of power distribution systems under both renewable generation and electrical vehicle charging uncertainties. To this end, the method of chance constrained optimization will be employed, in which the uncertain variables are described with appropriate probability density functions. The optimization problem will be solved by the inner-outer approximation method recently developed by our group. Benchmark examples will be used as case studies to verify the developed approaches. |
