| Description | The Abbe School of Photonics of the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena in Germany offers more than 10 PhD positions in Optics & Photonics. The Abbe School of Photonics is an academic education center for modern optics and photonics at highest international standards. ASP encompasses and coordinates all optics and photonics education activities at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena as well as the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering, the Helmholtz Institute Jena and the Leibniz Institute for Photonic Technologies, also located in Jena, Germany. A broad academic education at the highest international level within a modern research environment provides a profound up-to-date knowledge in a variety of fields – from fundamental sciences and laser physics to material sciences and life sciences. State-of-the-art laboratories offer premium conditions for research at the frontiers of photonics. A cornerstone of our philosophy is to regard and value our PhD and doctoral candidates (currently about 140) as early career scientists in all respects. Thus, we offer an individually adjusted and highly flexible program to meet each candidate’s scientific background and interests. This guarantees an optimum level of preparation for leading positions in science, industry or governmental agencies. Currently we are recruiting most talented junior scientists to join our faculty’s research groups for their PhD projects. Depending on the project the positions will be either funded by third-party funds like the German Research Foundation (DFG) or via the GSSP- Graduate School Scholarship Programme of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
