DescriptionThe Goethe-University Frankfurt (Germany) offers a PhD position (three years – extension is possible) in the laboratory of Prof. Dr. Alexander Heckel

The Heckel Lab develops and synthesizes light-activatable small organic molecules as well as nucleic acids. It focuses on wavelength selectivity of photolabile protecting groups (PPGs) and two-photon uncaging of PPGs to achieve spatial and temporal resolution. The research aims to investigate and control biological function with these light-activatable compounds. Diverse complex scenarios of light control are applied to achieve for example control of gene regulation (and thus protein expression) or controlling the structure of biologically relevant structure of nucleic acids.

Close collaborations with other labs are important to successfully complete the complex projects. Thus, you should have an open-minded cooperative attitude and the motivation to learn the basics of your cooperation partner´s expertise.

Please refer to our homepage (https://photochem.uni-frankfurt.de/) for further information and project description.

The Goethe-University supports equal opportunities and hence strongly encourages the application of female scientists. Handicapped applicants will be preferred in case of equal qualification.

The duration of the contract is bound to the rules of the “Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz” in combination with the “Hessische Hochschulgesetz”.
