On the Philosophical Faculty of the Heinrich-Heine University in Dusseldorf is the Institute of Language and Information in the Working Group Web Science invites applications for a position as

Research Assistant / Research Associate
in the field of Web Science
(100%; salary group 13 TV-L)
to occupy. The appointment is initially limited for a period of one year. An extension of employment for another two years is envisaged.

Web Science is a new discipline at the interfaces of different sciences, seeking to better understand the Web and its users and to develop new technologies in and for the Web. We assume that this field of research to a large extent meets your research interests and an interdisciplinary approach corresponds to your quest for creative and future-oriented research in the field of web.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Scientific collaboration among the research areas: data mining on multimodal web content analysis of social networks on the web, modeling of user behavior in online information systems
  • technical implementation of appropriate scientific experiments and evaluations on large amounts of data (Big Data)
  • Shaping interdisciplinary collaborations of the group at the national and international levels; Support for planning, application and implementation of the resulting research projects
  • Support and implementation of Courses in the curriculum of the degree program “Information Science & Technology language” in the amount of 4 hours per week

Setting Prerequisite:
A diploma or master’s degree in computer science, physics, mathematics or a related subject on the topic of Web research. With a degree in a social science subject, we expect a proven interest in computer science or mathematics (eg sociology with computer science as a minor subject). With a degree in natural sciences, a reference to human sciences is desirable. Proactive applications from students

in the final phase of their master’s degree are also welcome;the master’s degree must be to the closure date and time.

Our requirements:
You possess strong analytical skills, curiosity have to interdisciplinary research questions, bring a good programming skills, practical experience with methods of data mining and machine learning and solid understanding of algorithms and data models in your research. You are new challenges such as the acquisition of further abilities
and difficult problems with respect to positive and committed. Scientific communication (publications, lectures) benefits from your good English skills in speaking and writing.

The grouping is done depending on the presence of personal requirements to salary group 13 TV-L.
