GIGA Fellowships for Doctoral Students ,Germany, 2014
German Institute of Global and Area Studies is inviting applications for doctoral fellowships from April 2014 onwards at one of GIGA’s regional institutes (Africa, Asia, Latin America and Middle East). Applicants must have an excellent grade point average and a final degree (masters or equivalent) in political science/international relations, economics, history or a related discipline. The programme promotes gender equality and actively encourages applications from women. Selected student will further be granted a waiver of any fee incurring at the university from which they will receive their degrees.
Study Subject (s): Fellowships are provided in one of GIGA’s four research programmes: RP 1: Legitimacy and Efficiency of Political Systems, RP 2: Violence and Security, RP 3: Socio-Economic Challenges in the Context of Globalisation and RP 4: Power, Norms and Governance in International Relations.
Course Level: Fellowships are available for pursuing doctoral degree.

Eligibility: Desired qualifications:
-An excellent grade point average and a final degree (masters or equivalent) in political science/international relations, economics, history or a related discipline.
-A project proposal that fits with GIGA’s research programmes. Priority will be given to those projects with a cross-regional or a comparative area studies focus.
-Strong command of the English language

Scholarship Description: The GIGA welcomes applications from prospective doctoral students to become part of our three-year structured course. Selected student will further be granted a waiver of any fees incurring at the university from which they will receive their degrees. The reconciliation of work and family life is of great importance to the institute. The GIGA promotes gender equality and actively encourages applications from women.

What does it cover? Successful applicants will be offered:
-full integration into the research structure of the GIGA,
-an office space,
-(free) courses on methods and some selected substantive themes hosted by the GIGA,
-access to all courses by the Graduate School of the WiSo-Faculty at the University of Hamburg and
-the possibility to apply for additional mobility grants for field work and conference attendance.
